Hi, my name is Rob Johnson, and I am a Psychotherapist. I am also a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor accredited with the UKCP. I have extensive experience of counselling both individuals and couples. Working with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, addictive behaviours, stress, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), and substance misuse
In addition I cover a range of issues which can effect all of us at some time in our life; including depression, relationship and family issues.
I began my training as an Integrative Counsellor in the early 2000’s. This was after a long career within The London fire Brigade; during which I witnessed and was exposed to numerous traumatic and stressful situations. Here, I began to become aware of the stress, anxiety and all those associated emotions that can come to us, when we do not acknowledge our feelings; both to others and more importantly ourselves. I found that it is very important for us to express our feelings; because when we do not, it can and will affect our work, relationships, mental and physical health, together with our sense of self esteem.
My placement within my training was in a substance misuse agency, where shortly after I was taken on full time in a dual role as counsellor/brief intervention worker. Here my experience of working both short and long term began to develop. After a few years I moved on to working within a Substance misuse Rehabilitation Centre; as a Therapist and group facilitator. This environment helped me gain a lot of experience working with Stress, anxiety, trauma, abuse (Sexual, physical and emotional) and relationships, both with ourselves and others.
My approach to therapy is integrative; which means that I have studied the three main schools of therapy (humanistic, behavioural and psychodynamic), and placed these into a model that helps facilitate change. I allow the client to determine the direction and depth that therapy should take. I help the client find his or her own inner strength and resources. I make no value judgments and encourage my clients to explore their own value systems to determine whether they believe a course of action is right for them.
I hope that you will allow me to serve as your guide in your journey of self-discovery. I guarantee that I will remain present, non-judging, encouraging, and active as you explore your inner world. If you decide that I am not the right therapist for you I will be happy to assist you in selecting someone who will be a better fit. I look forward to hearing from you.
